Family visa options

Do you want to add your family members to your visa?

There are several ways you can do this, and it depends on your situation.

Apply for a visa and include them as your family member(s)…

Most visas will allow you to add family members at the time that you make your visa application. They will need to provide identity documents and may also need to meet health and character requirements. You will need to provide documents to show that they are your family member.
Some examples include:

  • Birth certificates
  • Family register certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Registration of relationship

If you have already lodged your visa, but it has not yet been granted…

You may be able to add your partner/wife/child to your application before your visa is granted. Some visa subclasses allow a family member to be added to the application even if you have already lodged your application. This is helpful if:

  • You do not have the money to pay for your family member’s fees upfront
  • You didn’t understand the questions in the visa application form
  • You didn’t believe that your family member was eligible to join you.

Luckily there are many visas which allow you to add a family member even after you have lodged.

This could save you a lot of trouble, since applying for a separate partner or child visa later will take much more time and money. Please get in touch with us to see if we can assist you with your scenario.

If your visa has already been granted…

The subclass 457/482 visa allows you to add your family member to your visa even after it has already been granted, any time up until the expiry of your visa. There can be some great benefits to doing this, including an easier pathway for you and your family when you are ready to apply for a permanent visa, so please get in touch with us to discuss.
